About our chairman Kilan Chadee and vice chairman Kolo Jogeeah
About Our Chairman, Kilan Chadee, and Vice
Chairman, Kolo Jogeeah
Kilan Chadee, arrived in
London from Holland in 1987 and established the Mauritius Clavisque
Football Club in 1998 to serve the football and recreational needs
of the Mauritian and Anglo-Mauritian communities in Edmonton and
Tottenham. In 1996, he played alongside Kolo Jogeeah for Unique FC
and Sunrise FC in the Sunday league, and they later joined Cork
United in 1997. In 1998, they founded Clavisque FC and entered the
Edmonton District Sunday League, Division 6.
kolo Jogeeah,
immigrated to the UK in 1985 from Fond du Sac, a small village in
northern Mauritius, to pursue his studies. Like many youths, he had
a passion for sports, particularly football, where he played as a
defender, following in the footsteps of his late father, Ramesh, a
footballer and manager with Young Tigers in the Mauritian league.
Kolo began playing with a mix of older and younger Mauritians at
Park View near Tottenham Hale station before joining a St Lucian
team named Unique in the Haringey League. His journey truly began
when he met Kilan Chadee at Picket's Lock Sports Centre, who invited
him to join Unique.
After a few seasons, they started running teams
in the Edmonton District League and soon founded CLAVISQUE FC.
Initially, they had about five non-Mauritian players, but their
unity and success in tournaments and leagues made them one of the
best Mauritian teams in Edmonton to date. Kolo has served as a
player-manager for Hans Sporting Club, Clavisque, and now the MPLA,
and he continues to pursue his dream, hoping it inspires all
Mauritians.
The association originally focused on
football competitions and the Sunday league, but with Kolo's
support, it evolved into today's MPLA. The football club became a
vital asset, fostering social integration among the diverse
Mauritian groups in North London. It served as a venue for various
activities involving retired Mauritians, entrepreneurs, and
merchants. This website aims to highlight how the association
reinforced its social structure and restored harmony by fostering a
micro-culture of togetherness. The purpose is to provide insight
into what motivated the committee to establish these social events,
the functions carried out, and the relationships formed within the
local community. The committee has chosen to focus on creating a
social club without political objectives, recognising the vital role
that social clubs played in the association’s history. .
MPLA: A Social Club for All
MPLA was created as a social club for
members of all ages and genders affiliated with the Mauritian
community. We host various sporting and cultural events throughout
the year.
